Shelbey's BlogHelicopter SafetyI need opinoins..... I am taking a class on commercial aviation safety and have to present an idea to implement safety. I would like to focus on helicopters. I have had several ideas stewing in my head involving procedures around wires to cut down on the wire strikes.
Any and all ideas are welcome and much appreciated also not limited to wire strikes. Thanks! |

Helicopter Safety
I was training with Becker Helicopter a few years back and the subject of wires was brought up in a ground session. It may sound very simple, however it had a profound impact of how I approach vertical obstacles (trees, silos, wires, poles, etc). Draw a square box depicting your LZ. Draw some high wires on either side of the box. Then, ask your audience, students whatever, where they would land their helicopter. You would be amazed at the answers you get. WE were always told to land right next to any obstacle that impeded the LZ. Why? Because, then you know where they are at all times. Also, safety procedures around the helicopter are a great topic. Hope this helps!
