Let me know...

Hello, everyone. I wrote this thing so you can hold me responsible. Please let me know what you feel needs to be done with this site. This is your site and I am your humble servant. My goal is to turn this into the best networking site available for pilots. And non-pilots, also! Make your requests and we will make it happen!

This site rocks...

JJ, you have done a great job getting the architecture to work. I appreciate your hard work. We have to make a few more tweaks but we are almost there! All the best!

Re: Let me know...

Hey I'm not sure if it's just me but i've logged on to this site on a couple different computers and there seems to be some "bugs". I read that it is in the works but things like getting kicked off and spending almost an hour uploading photos that are now not visible are occuring. Also when updating profile information after submitting nothing changes. Just wanted to let you know. It seems like a sight with great potential but there are many existing nuances.

Re: Let me know...

JJ - Thanks to you and others for this great site! Good to know we can go 'direct' to network. Here are two web issues I need some help on in the Bio portion: 1)My entry into "Aircraft rated in" doesn't want to "stick" and 2) adding a 2nd website doesn't allow enough characters. Also when I want to put something in quotations " I get a / as well. Thanks! Wingal201

Re: Let me know...

JJ, One thing I have noticed is that I have to log in a second time when I access the Forums page-- that's even with cookies enabled... Other than that, I am very impressed with the site thus far...Keep up the good work! Scott

Re: Let me know...

Hello all and JJ. I think it would be a great idea to have a login name, and a display name. As you see right now my name is Seria17hri11er. I just wanted to use that as a login, not as my actual display name. I would prefer to display my actual name. And of course, I could have used my real name as my login, but what happends when there are several people with the same name? You get Nickmathews231932. A bit silly I think. Another thing, the picture galleries. I don't care for them very much. I think it would be a great Idea if you could open a new page that would show all the pictures of someones gallery, while still keeping the option of a slide show. I wrote some lengthy descriptions for some of my pictures but you can barely read a sentence of it. The pictures are real small too, cant we have them bigger? I tried looking at all the profiles today and I would guess that about 50% of people have there profiles set to private. I would hope that you guys would encourage people to be a little more open. Thanks for the great mag and site! -Nick

Re: Let me know...

Hi, JJ. Quick question: how do we edit a post? I just posted a response to Gates and upon reading it found a dumb mistake. Would like to correct it, as the extra two letters change the meaning of my intended response. Thanks.

Re: Let me know...

I have to log in two times to view my page. Is my cpu the problem or the way the site works?. Still a great site...lots of cool photos! I hope people don't abuse this site with a bunch of bulls**t.

Re: Let me know...

I have a couple of suggestions. I noticed when I filled out my information, everything defaults to private. I had to go to privacy settings to show people my profile information. Maybe they should all default to public. People wouldn't fill in the blanks if they didn't want information shown. Also I have to log in twice. The first time it doesn't recognize me.

Re: Let me know...

This site is a great idea! One suggestion is to have a e-mail button that you can click so you can share this site with other people so more people will join. Once more people join, this site will be much more interesting.

Agreed.

I am excited that there is finally a helpful, friendly aviation site. Other's I have come across simply just did not appeal. If you are open to suggestions though it would be nice to upload more than one picture at a time.

Re: Agreed.

We will fix you up. I'm taking the rest of the weekend off but multiple file uploads will be put on the todo list for next week. Thanks for your input.

Re: Agreed.

I have been experimenting with multiple image uploads. The problem is this - as long as everyone obeys the rules and optimizes their images it can be done but I can not guarantee that. It takes twice the memory of your images to copy and store them. If someone uploads a bunch of 8mb photos they can crash the system and nothing happens. The only way we can do this would be to have a form, similar to the one in the Classified Ad section with a limit on the size and number of images. What would you say to that?

Great Potential

Thanks for setting up this site. I think it has great potential to help pilots network and to share knowledge and experience. Hopefully, as you start to build this site out, you will build educational/informative content into it.

One thing..

One thing that would be nice and should be relatively easy to do would be able tie in Flickr images or Youtube videos. I myself have tons of Flickr images of aircraft, air shows etc, and would love to share those with everyone, just done want to upload them again... - Jeff

Re: One thing..

We have you fixed up now. You can embed external content into your profile. It will get better over time. Pretty soon we are going to have a feed system where you can get and send syndicated content through rss feeds. We are also going to create a video page and, well, I won't let all of the cats out of the bag yet.

No new posts

Are internet forums getting old or is everybody in just a lull? What can we do to spice things up on this site? What would you like to see? We can make this site do whatever we want.

Re: No new posts

Well, FWIW, IMO, this forum format is not the most user friendly. I grew up so to say on vBulletin and am used to having all the threads and new posts available at basically a click of a mouse button. This is just hard for me to navigate, therefore I don't come here that often. Besides, I am on at least 4 other web boards that seem to serve all my needs.

New Pilot Lounge

Howdy to all - In case you haven't been there for awhile, we just revamped the pilotmag.com website. We have been working on revamping the lounge to more of a Facebook type of site with the main focus on status updates. If there is anything specific you would like to see now is the time for your input.

New Pilot Lounge

Your site is not easy to use, the Web master needs to make it easier to change passwords. Facebook has this down pat. But I do very much like the emphasis on Aviation, and believe this will do much for the entire industry, plus you will not believe, if you setup contribution links by pilots of info, it will mushroom your site into the premier site for pilots and aviation.

Re: New Pilot Lounge

Thank you very much for the feedback. I have to admit that you are right as for the functionality. We will be rolling out some major upgrades pretty soon. If there were three of me we would be there already. A lot of the programming has been done so were not that far away. As soon as these apps are tight we will start integrating them.

Re: New Pilot Lounge

When a user clicks on the picture under the heading "Lounge Photos," instead of being able to see all the photos on the site, the user is taken to an individuals page, and can only view that particular users images. It's a little misleading and ultimately frustrating. It would be nice to see all the awesome pictures I'm sure are avaliable here without having to search through each member's profile to find them. Glad to have found this site, regardless.

Re: photos

Good point Alan. We are planning a gallery page where you can see all of the photos. There are lots. I will instigate this and have something up within the next couple of weeks.
