Re: Re: Should I Go To Ground School

Another viable option would be to learn under part 61 with a CFI in the plane and on the ground. Get all the books your CFI suggests and read them, do all the book exercises, answer all the questions and take many practice tests. You could flight train during the day and study small units at night. It will all add up. Sign-up for all the on-line crap you can find, especially AOPA's flight training stuff. In other words, immerse yourself in the aviation world. Read mags, hang out at the airport, peruse the on-line forums and ask questions. That's what I'm doing and it seems to be working well.

Re: Re: Re: Should I Go To Ground School

I think the main benefit of attending a ground school (vs studying on your own) is the structure it provides. The biggest problem we see in our flight school is with students who set out to do a home study course, and then lack the discipline to complete it. It's easy to run out of steam, when family, career, and other commitments get in the way of your training. Knowing you have a class to attend 2 nights per week (or whatever), sort of forces you to complete the training.
